please i need help, bayliffs turned up today demanding full payment of £290, before this i owed £170, my council tax arrears were £220, ive already paid £100, there giving me 24hrs to pay in full, if not there coming to get my car, i did sign a piece of paper from a previous visit, i no i shouldn't of now, it does say walking possession on it, but they never entered my home, is it valid? Also if i rang the council tax people up, and offered to pay the full amount outstanding, would they except, and would it keep the bayliffs away, hope anyone can help, im desperate, only 12hrs left

Tallulah you need to read the bailiff guide Bailiff Issues - Legal Beagles Consumer Forum

If you have any further questions, then come back and ask.

hi! ive just read the bayliffs guide, it does say if they have a walking possession, then the car is there's basically. is that right even tho they didn't enter my property? unfortunately i did sign the form not knowing what it was for!!! i thought i was signing to say that id arranged payments, ive checked the register, and both people that came are registered. if i rang the council tax office, to pay what was outstanding to them, wud they go with that? also does it help that im in the process of going in to a debt management thanks.

Did they ask you to sign the walking possession? If they did what, specifically, did they say to get you to sign it?

ive never heard of a walking possesion, and dont recall them saying anything about it, it was the first visit, and i thought i was signing to agree to payments, and the charges for visiting me thats how she put it across, couldn't i refuse to pay the enforcement fee, and just pay the whole £170 that was outstanding?

It's ok, everything is fine so don't panic, just tell me what goods they levied on? Or was it just your car?

If you are able to pay the full amount, then yes, you should do this and directly to the council.

I would also write a letter of complaint to your council and copy in the bailiffs because you were tricked into signing that walking possession agreement and they are not allowed to do that, so you should not pay the levy fee.

The fees they have added; you owed £220 in council tax and you have already paid £100, but the bailiffs are saying you still owe £290? Is this correct? Do you know what else they have added fees on for?

hi, ive paid the council tax the amount i owed to them, the bayliffs are aware of this, as the council have rung them, the bayliffs then rung me to say they are coming to get my car now, as i haven't paid the £120 enforcement fee added on yesterday, ive told them the car isn't here (which its not) they said it doesn't matter as they'l come in my house for goods. Ive been told that they carn't come in my house for any goods, as they levied on my car, is this right? anyway they said there coming now, ive panicked, and rung my local councilor for help (he was away) but his secatary has rung the council tax up, the council have rung the bayliffs, and asked them to put on hold coming tonight, which they have agreed, phew!!! now someone from the recovery dep at the council tax office, is going ask the bayliffs the amount of charges theyv'e added to my account, and then phone me tomorrow. the only charge im dissagreeing with is the enforcement fee of £120, but the councillor says if its justifiable, then i still have to pay, could they still take my car? as the walking agreement signed was for the car, and other fees, which is now paid.
