  • Mistaken Identity

A company called Jacobs is threatening to take away my brother's belongings for debts belonging to the previous tenant at his address.
He is worried that they will come while his daughter is home and trick their way in.
He has contacted them by phone (which I told him is a bad idea) and they said basically that they would still remove items unless HE proves he is not responsible.
He has been paying the council tax at his address for some time but it is the local authority who have sent in the bailiffs. Apparently these are debts/fines relating to a vehicle which the previous tenant has still got registered at this address.
I told him they cant take anything without a court order in his name. Is this accurate? He is worried that they may already have one but surely it would be in the previous tenants name?
    Please advise?????

He needs to prove this debt is not his, which presumably he can do quite easily.

Why has he not this already?
