Hi new to this site and need some advice.

I had made an arrangement with newlyn to pay off some council tax, they told me it would start in september,i recieved a call from them today saying i had missed the first payment and now it had gone up by £120?i stated that the first payment was to be made by the end of september but they said the arrangement was to start end of august and they had sent me a letter, they have now said i have to pay £71 over 4 months and have 7 days to make the first payment otherwise a ballif will be called and i will incur more charges. They said the maximum payment plan they can do is 4 months and at the moment the outstanding balance is £280.

There is no way i can really afford to pay £71 a month as i only work part time hours,i couldnt really of afforded the £54 they wanted previously but agreed toit to stop ballifs coming round.

can anyone give me any advice thanks.

You need to be able to make the repayments you agree to. Bailiffs set high repayment schedules deliberately in order that you then will fail to keep to them and then they can slap you with more charges.

You should not deal with the bailiffs at all, simply pay the council direct and ignore the bailiffs.

Have you read the bailiff guide yet? Bailiff Guide - Legal Beagles Consumer Forum

I too am having issues with Newlyn, they have added Van Call charges to my account of £105 x 2 and charged £41.97 per cheque for 2 bounced cheques they have also made charges for visits for days when I know I was in but there is no way to prove it, every time I break an agreement they add more charges or send threatening letters and text messages. I really dont know which way to turn, the original debt was for £60 for a parking fine which my daughter didnt tell us about and now the debt has gone up for £553.00. Is there any way to get any help on this I really am desperate
