I thought that forum users might be interested to know that Rossendales bailiff, Peter Walsh, was found guilty of theft at Chelmsford Crown Court:

Given that bailiffs in general are employed specifically to exploit the vulnerable and relieve them of as much money as possible, I suppose he thought he was perfectly entitled to do as he had been trained.

Well that confirms the belief of lots of people that 'if they are breathing they are lying'.

He would be entitled to free legal representation because the charges against him may result in him being denied his liberty. In such cases, legal aid is an automatic right.

The sentence an offender receives is determined by the nature of the offence(s), the victim(s), the effect it has had on the victim(s) and the offender's antecedents. If, for example, he was of Previous Good Character (PGC), that is, no previous convictions, that would have an influence on the sentence imposed. Also, courts have to observe Sentencing Guidelines.

And his blatant abuse of his position of trust?

Absolutely. Where a person holds a position of trust, whether actual or perceived, that will be taken into account when determining sentence. A corrupt police officer will receive a far harsher sentence than, say, a corrupt bank clerk, simply, because the police officer is tasked with the duty of upholding the law.

As this thread is 3 years old, i wonder if that particular bailiff was trained by Mr Boast?
