Myself and my partner owe £690 in council tax arrears, the bailiff had set our monthly payments at £150 per month our situation has changed and only my husband is working as i am pregnant. We can't afford to pay £150 a month and when i rang the company to ask if we could lower our payment to £70 a month they refused to lower it and said if we don't pay then a bailiff will be sent to our house. I've never let a bailiff into my property and have never signed anything. I don't know what to do now as we can't afford to pay £150 a month, the guy I spoke to was incredibly rude to me and said if we don't pay we'll be sent to prison and then he hung up on me. Can anyone please advise what we should do now.

How much of what you owe is due to the fees added by the bailiff? If you do not know, have a read here Bailiff Guide - Legal Beagles and send the bailiff a Subject Access Request letter.
If I were you, I'd simply pay the council what I owe and never converse with the bailiff again.

Re: Bailiff company won't accept my offer to pay
Are you vulnerable person ? ill or exepecting or on jsa etc ? If so you need to contact the council who will take the bailiffs off your back.If you have any sort of problems with bailiffs. I can help you as i am a self proclaimed specialist at dealing with them. I am hopefully going to start a degree (law) from october. If you think my posts are helpful or are guiding you in the right direction do show your appreciation by giving me a green blob.
