  • Paid debt for someone who doesn't live with us under threat of locksmith.

This morning Marstons came to our home seeking payment for a debt belonging to our son re unpaid car tax from 2016. We explained he has not lived here for over ten years. My son spoke to them this afternoon and was told if the debt was not paid they would come back at 6am tomorrow morning with a locksmith. I texted the bailiff and sent him photos of a letter we sent them in 2013 re an earlier debt stating he doesn't live with us. I also sent a copy of a reply from Collectica (part of the same group) stating they would remove our details from their system. I asked him to confirm he would not be attending in the morning but he replied saying his team would be here at 6am. I felt intimidated by this and don't want them entering my home so I have paid the debt online. I'm interested to know if I have any redress? I've paid a debt that is not mine so my home will not be broken into. Also should there not be a particular time frame between a first visit and return with a locksmith?

Unfortunately you have fallen for one the oldest tricks a Bailiff tries on - making what will be classed as a voluntary payment for a family member. Not much you can do.

The Bailiff has clamped my daughters car , the V5 is in my name , that's not proof of ownership . She has provided a hand written receipt and proof of bank transfer for the money from her bank to the seller . They bailiff says the clamp stays on until the debt from me for parking fines is recovered , surely they cant hold her for ransome for my debt* ?
