I see your Council do have a Code of Conduct for Bailiffs https://new.enfield.gov.uk/services/...of-conduct.pdf

      Hi plodder
Thanks for the links, the bailiff code of practice was especially useful.
Councillor has been in touch and emailed the relavant person at the council to recall the debt and set up a manageable plan.
Im in the process of calling the bailiffs to explain this and to advise that im recovering from life saving emergency bypasses, i am bipolar and have history wih enfield crisis team, and thirdly my work circumstances have changed dramatically.
I will be doing my best to keep calm whilst speaking to them, and will note all calls

The bailiffs have put it on hold for 3 weeks whilst i send them proof of my illness, and the councillors intervention, so some breathing space phew.
Thanks again for your help, you have been amazing my friend
I will update as and when

I am so pleased to hear this and hopefully it will give you breathing space to be able to sort this out and get back on track with your own health. Please keep me updated - with health as well if you wish.

            Good morning plodder
Ive had an email from Enfield council and they have withdrawn the debt from the bailiffs due to seriuos health issues, which is marvellous news and thank you for all your help.
Unfortunately they have now set us up on a weekly plan of £178.00 p/w to clear the debt by the end of the tax year, this is extremely far from what we can afford and i will be contacting them today.
            Will update you further.

Well that's a good start. As for paying then the usual is they want it paying before the end of the financial year but given the shortness of time and the amount outstanding coupled with your present circumstances then someone is being less than understanding - time to contact your Councillor again. Have they ever asked you to provide I&E to see you are not telling porkies. Typical of Capita this.

                Hi mate
No we have never filled out anything, what worries me is most of my incomings showing on my bank statements are donations and loans from family and friends, until things improve with my health, i will ring the council in the morning to discuss our options

                  Hi plodder
Great result, spoke with senior tax official today and have agreed a £30 a week payment to run alongside next years payments, and if we get into difficulties to let them know, very pleased and gives us breathing space. Bad news is a notice of repossesion arrived for rent arrears of £700.00 but i think i know the drill now!
Thanks for your time and help, you have been a godsend my friend

That sounds like a plan starting to come together and it is good that someone has realised the previous demand was just plain stupid. I don't know much about repossessions or rent arrears but best bet is to start another thread and I'm sure there will be someone who can off er help & advice.
