  • M&S civil recovery DWF

    Hi,

some weeks ago I was caught shoplifting in M&S, then under cover security guy stopped me and brought me in a room where he asked for my ID. After that, no police was called, goods were returned, and I was just told that I was banned from M&S.
I now got a letter from DWF solicitors asking for a fine to be paid. I read on previous and very old threads that people suggested not to pay for it, but I am very scared.
I am an immigrant and in the process to buy a house, can someone confirm no legal actions were taken after the letters were ignored?
    thanks

DWGF have not sent you a "fine"
Fines in the UK are only imposed by the courts.
DWF have sent you a speculative invoice for an amount they want you to pay.

The standard advice is not to pay, and to ignore any more letters sent by DWF.
I have not heard of anyone in the situation you describe being taken to court

Hi, yesterday I saw that the police rung at my doorbell while i was at wrok but they did not leave a note or anything. I did not pay the DWF fine but i am worried they actually informed the police??

Most likely just coincidence. If the police didn't leave a note do nothing and continue to ignore DWF. If the police want to talk to you about something they will come back another time.
All opinions expressed are based on my personal experience. I am not a lawyer and do not hold any legal qualifications.
