Parking Fine

Hi

Need some advice. Have a friend who moved from London to the far east last year with his family.
He left his wife's car at his friend's house in order for him to sell it on his behalf. The car was in his wifes name.
His friend managed to get a cash sale eariler this year. The buyer took the logbook and said he would fill it out later. 3 weeks later the seller started to receive fine letters at his house in london (about 9 in total )that the car was parked on private land in Coventry in East Midlands.
He has told the parking company that he is in far east and that the car was sold on his behalf by his mate while he was away. New buyer details which he had, have also been passed to the parking company. They are not listening and keep demanding payment.
Yesterday he had paper's served informing him of a county court claim.
it would seem that the new buyer didnt change the details on the logbook.
Would he win in court or does he just pay the fines ?
biggest problem is both he and his wife are not planning on coming back to the UK for another 2 years.

problem is both parties have to inform DVLA? New buyer they have new owners name etc, then they go for new buyer, Des-8

The friend messed up

The seller has to advise DVLA of change of registered keeper, so that should now be done explaining & giving date of sale

No reason why she should not defend the claim, and ask for a paper hearing as she won't want to pay for a solicitor's representation
Altho' she was the registered keeper, as she was abroad at the time of the offence she could not have been the keeper at the time of the parking incident(s).
Note POFA 2012 definition of "keeper" :

• “keeper” means the person by whom the vehicle is kept at the time the vehicle was parked, which in the case of a registered vehicle is to be presumed, unless the contrary is proved, to be the registered keeper;

Presumably proving she was out of the country and could not have been the keeper will not be a problem

There might be other defences available, but we would need to see the NTK

Thank you guys. I am telling him to defend the case and not pay Gladstones I have read all the reviews about them online.
