  • Rrecorded Phone Calls and Public Interest

    Hi
Can anybody advise on examples of using recorded phone calls without consent but in the public interest?

Re: Rrecorded Phone Calls and Public Interest

When you say using them without consent but in the public interest, what do you mean?

The general rule of thumb if you are talking telephone conversations is that you must advise the person you are recording them, and if they say they do not consent to your recording than you stop immediately, any recording where this is not advised is inadmissable in a court of law.

HOWEVER: If you have called someone and advised them you are recording the call and they say something dodgy you can use this as evidence.

I suppose an example of this is if (and I am not suggesting you would or that you should) you called up a company and made a hoax bomb threat, This would be forwarded to the Anti Terrorist Squad to help in an investigation.. but even then companies advise you that your call is being recorded..
