  • Damage charges from Close Brothers Motor Finance

    Hello,

I VT my mini with Close Brothers in June. Without providing me with any information about damage charges, they passed on over £1500 to a debt collecting agency. When I enquired with Close Brothers, they stated this was for claiming unpaid damage charges.

When they collected the vehicle, I stupidly did sign on the PDA. They inspectors made out that it was just to prove that they had been to inspect the car and they would send the report to me via email. Now CB have sent me the documents, I can see I have stupidly put my signature against the statement "I agree with the damage report and costs (if applicable) for this vehicle at the point of collection, and understand further damage may be chargeable if adverse conditions restricted the appraisal of the vehicle"

    the charges are as follows

    Scratch on bonnet £136.40
    Scratch on front bumper £65
    Front Seat Soiled £10
    Replace master key £225
    Front wheel scratch £37
Front door previous repair visible £160
    Front wheel Scratch £37
Rear Wing Previous repair visible £160
Boot area replace locking wheel nut £70
    Replace Parcel Shelf £113.28
    Replace Wiper Rear Blade £8.54
    Total: £1024.42
    Inc Vat: £1229.30

Several of the things they've noted were there when I purchased the vehicle! Others are minor scratches you can barely see in the photos! I agree to the parcel shelf as that was in my front room and I forgot to put it in the car and the master key didn't work remotely. Apart from that, I fail to see how I have amounted £1229.30 worth of damages! They is more than it would have cost me to have settled the account in full and keep the vehicle.

What can I do, if anything? I understand they have my signature agreeing to the damages, so can I even do anything!? Can I offer to pay for the key and parcel shelf and dispute the rest?

I can see that they very quickly sold the vehicle at auction for £386
