    Can the council still make you pay council tax if the debt is over 6yrs old

      Providing the Council obtain a Liability Order within 6 years of becoming aware you owe then there is no time limit on how long they can take to collect or enforce. More & more Councils are looking at Aged Debt to prop up their finances.

        I'd also add that if it's regarding an older debt the 6 year period to obtain a liability order only starts from when the amount becomes due (i.e a demand notice is issued) so this means that , for example, a council could issue a demand notice today following an adjustment for a period in 2010 - the 6 years would only start ticking from now.
