  • Disciplinary and Appeals

A first written warning (no revious verbal warnings), the letter gave 5 days to appeal. The letter was dated Tuesday, franked Thursday and received Friday. Appeal sent in Saturday but then told that the appeal window had closed. Can an employer do that? Should it not be 5 working days from receipt of letter?

    Absolute nonsense.
Apart from anything else, they would have to allow for posting. (Minimum 2 days for 1st class).
Common sense alone would indicate their position is illogical. If this were permissible, a letter or notice could be dated on a certain day, giving a deadline, but not posted until after the stated deadline.
