  • Lowell Portfolio Chasing unpaid BT bill

Hi there, My husband & I returned from our honeymoon to find a letter from Lowell stating that he owes £298.05 for an account he held with BT. He contacted BT who said that the account was closed in 2010, but there was £26 outstanding on it (in 2010). BT claim that they tried to contact him but had no response. My husband was living with his mother back then and that is also where Lowell have sent this letter. In a panic I paid this debt off on my credit card, but after doing some research online i'm not sure this was the best thing to do. In the letter from Lowell there is no information about the dates from when the BT account was closed or what the original amount of debt was (this we found out from BT themselves).
There is also nothing on any of my husband's credit reports to say that anything is outstanding.

In a separate issue Lowell are also chasing him for an 'unpaid' debt to Orange mobile for £485.24 Again there are no dates to say when he was with Orange and Lowell have issued a notice of claim issue which brings the new total up to £654.06

My husband has always paid his bills so is quite surprised and worried about these coming out of the woodwork. I'm sending this on his behalf as hes currently in a splint and cant type.

Sorry for such a long message, I hope someone out there can help us.
