  • Vt charges

Hi. Just in process of handing back car to finance company, voluntary termination. Received letter saying if I didn't have the correct documents for the car I will be charged. E.g. £300 for no proof of servicing. £75 for no mot certificate. £25 for no service book etc etc. Is this legal and do I have to pay. Thankyou.

    Re: Vt charges

No you don't have to they are just inflated charges. You are legally required to return the car in a reasonable condition. That is subjective but as long as it's roadworthy and the car isn't falling to pieces you should be fine. Having the car regularly serviced is a good way to show the car is in a reasonable condition. Are you saying you don't have an MOT cerfixitcate? Service book is just a service book. If you don't have that but have receipts of work carried out that's enough proof I think
If you have a question about the voluntary termination process, please read this guide first, as it should have all the answers you need. Please do not hijack another person's thread as I will not respond to you

Thank you for your prompt reply. I have just had the car mot'd and have the certificate. The car has always been well looked after so hopefully not too much hassle.
