Re: What to do if your car is Europe and insurance runs out

We have cancelled with Flux by email last night and letter in the post today - and gone back to Saga this very morning - fully comp for unending European travel (within the 3000 miles limitation), no green card or asking if we can go out of the U.K.! Albeit at a rather larger sum than the original renewal quote - price quoted as of today I was told. However, no matter, the car is insured.

But - there is a sting in the tail which has infuriated us - post has just arrived and we find 2 identical letters from Flux to say that THEY have cancelled the insurance as the information We provided was unacceptable to Kinetic!!!!! Their letters are dated 30 Sept, cover is provided up to 7/10/16 - with warnings in an attachment on consequences if we do not insure the car.

Now comes the question of reimbursement - and what Flux will deduct - as they are providing cover up to 7 Oct., which we do not need. Well I guess that will perhaps be another battle. Husband is going to call them today, so we shall see what ensues.

Once again many many thanks for all your help and advice. So good to have folks like yourself on this forum.

So you could now start to have some fun!!

FLUX are a sub broker, who have authority from a broker at lloyds (KINETIC) to issue cover for KINETIC
Undoubtedly KINETIC hold a binding authority from ALLIANZ, who are the insurers.

Once the policy has been issued, the insurer can only cancel it for the reasons set out on page 4 of the policy document.
If these reasons don't apply they can't cancel the policy without breaching the contract.
You must ask to see the documentation from KINETIC giving full reason for the declinature post acceptance by the underwriter at FLUX and post issuance of policy wording.
Warn them that if a full explanation and FULL refund is not made you will be contacting KINETIC @ St Helen's, London EC3P 3DQ and ALLIANZ Insurance Company seeking the same.

Re: What to do if your car is Europe and insurance runs out

Indeed a nice few days stay on the Rhein when we pick up the car in 3 weeks time with a happy and relaxed drive home in the knowledge we are well covered.

Somwewhat academic now I'm afraid with regards to insisting on reasons for Flux/Kinetic cancellation. I was not privy to the call my husband made to them yesterday morning, other than the brief description of what ensued. He went ahead and Informed them that he had cancelled - to which they were apparently delighted to "accept" - and would "waive" their fee - all he would be charged was a minimal amount (£13.00) for the days of actual cover! I'm not entirely sure that will be the case until he receives a cheque back. As I've also only just found out the actual insurance cost was (in my view) rather low, with a hefty £50 fee charged in addition for Flux arranging. My husband is assuming that this is the fee Flux were referring to? Unless there are more anomalies that will be thrown up that he does not know about or has considered.

Were it "my" insurance I would be very much inclined to get to the bottom of this fiasco and do as you have suggested. However my feeling is that now my husband is just so relieved and happy to be extricated from this disastrous scenario and subsequently has no intention of pursuing it further. But it watch this space - possibly dependent on what will be refunded to him - if it is not what he assumes it to be.

Thank you again for all your help and for the Kinetic address, I hope it's not necessary to use it, but very useful to have that information.

Re: What to do if your car is Europe and insurance runs out

If your OH has succeeded in reducing total cost to £13, it is because FLUX knew they had made a b**** up and are extremely happy to get away with it.

But well done anyway that man, and it really isn't, IMO, worth the effort in pursuing it further.

          Enjoy the journey home.

Happy to report that cheque has duly arrived with a mere £13 reduction. And agree with your take on why Flux so readily capitulated - lesson learned for future ref. Many thanks - here's to joyful motoring.
