6 Year old debt re-registered on my Credit file by Debt Managers Limited

I am concerned to discover a default which fell of my credit file in June 2016, has now reappeared under a new debt collection company.

Is this allowed? What can I do?

How long has it been on your CRA listing? (When you say 'fell off', did it just disappear for a while, then reappear?)

Have you had a Notice of Assignment informing you that the debt has been sold on to another firm?

Did it fall off because the original default date was more than 6 years ago? If it did, then you need to write to the new debt collector and ask them to correct the default date which should be June 2010, see http://debtcamel.co.uk/debt-default-date/

But before you do this, when did you last make a payment to this debt?

It came off my credit report because it defaulted 6 years ago in June 2010. The last payment was made before I missed 5 payments then a default was issued. Never had any correspondence with them about it just had letters every now and then through the years, but its been sold about 4 times.

It was 6 years in June 2016. Have had no letters for a couple of years.

Hi Stu

I've noticed this happening a few times, so I imagine it's a fairly common occurrence.
I guess when a debt purchaser buys a portfolio, they don't bother to sift through to sort out the wheat from the chaff.
