I've posted my "thoughts" on this on 10th September and then you asked others for advice. I'm not seeing any other responses to your question.

Maybe an opinion poll would be an option

Does "mid four figures" suggest a potential claim of £5k or above?

No need to apologise, I wasn't offended in the least

I'm familiar with forums where some posters sit and wait for a member to post what they want to hear rather than consider what's been suggested.

It's ultimately your decision so you must do what feels right for you.

Lowells say they've put the account on hold for thirty days. Make sure you respond with 'something' by about Day 20 in case they issue on Day 30.

They might be tempted to do that with a £5k debt since they'll know that in theory they'll not be risking costs in the Small Claims Court especially if you are a Litigant In Person if this does go to court. Let's hope not or in the very least your hopes of it being undeniably SB work if it does.

A quick update.

I sent a CCA in mid September and heard nothing until today when I received a letter from Lowell saying the account was closed.

Never underestimate the power of a Section 77-79 CCA Request. It was probably the best £1 you've ever spent.

Have a wonderful Christmas knowing this (£5k) irritation is behind you.
