  • Letter from Woolwich/Barclays Collections and Recoveries

Received a random letter from Woolwich/Barclays asking to make contact.

"please note this letter does not relate to any outstanding debt with Barclays".

Am I right to be suspicious ??

      Historically yes, but closed accounts.

I cannot imagine it is them giving me some positive news out of the blue. Hence my suspicion.

Do you mind if I ask if this letter turned out to be legitimate and debt. A family member has had the same letter and is worried this weekend.

Were any of your accounts secured loans which were described as Unregulated loans at the time which the Woolwich has suddenly realised should have been Regulated loans?

The Woolwich offered secured loans and mortgages on behalf of Barclays.

We're aware of letters recently sent out to some customers on this issue.

You may not need to worry. Wait and see what this is about.

Did your family member have a loan from the Woolwich? (see my post # 5)

As far as I'm aware the Woolwich mortgage was ended and paid off 6 years ago along with any loans/debt. I'm worried the ex has done something.

The only thing with Woolwich was the mortgage.

Don't be suspicious of your ex just yet

Was the letter addressed to your ex or to you or to both?

Was one of the paid off loans Unregulated?

Just her. They have had to track her down. The letter is addressed to the occupier. Says trying to get in touch with just her. It references the mortgage number which was in both names.

Have no idea if anything was unregulated. What would that mean?

Did the joint mortgage have PPI?

Was the mortgage redeemed in full or could there have been a shortfall?

Return the letter saying she is not resident at this address.

If the letter references the joint mortgage it's odd that it should have been an attempt to trace your ex only since any joint mortgage business would also be your business.

If the letter is addressed to "the occupier" you have every right to open it since you are the occupier.

I don't see any need for you to do anything since it's not threatening anything. It's your letter so file it away.

If they write to your ex at your address then you can return that letter saying either "Gone Away" if your ex used to live there or "Not Known at this address" if they didn't.

We've had this letter too - addressed to 'The occupier' who is my husband. He had a woolwich mortgage with his ex which was paid off a year ago. Did anyone find out what it was all about?
