Kitchen fitter

I recently purchased a kitchen from a reputable company, we did not use their installers as we had our own, unfortunately they broke their arm and couldn't do the installation, we went back to the kitchen company and asked if they knew of anyone. A few days later we had a text from a builder friend of one of the sales team From the kitchen company (we did not know at that point they were friends) the builder text that the referral came from the named sales guy at the kitchen shop and would like to look at our kitchen and arranged a suitable time to visit, he arrived with our plans/kitchen details (that the kitchen people gave him) cutting a long story short, the builder did a really bad job, and we withheld final payment. Should the kitchen company/salesman be allowed to give our address details and kitchen pack to anyone ( they are now claiming to not know ) or are they breaking the law?? The kitchen company are saying they are not responsible, however the recommendation came from one of their team,

It was only a recommendation it was your choice to use the fitter try to sort the problems out with him hard to see what you could claim from the suppliers

Totally agree with this.

This sounded more of a referral than a recommendation and of course it is entirely up to you whether you engage them or not. And even if the suppliers gave details of your address and supplied kitchen, they were not instructing them in any way and the final decision lies with you. Alas, and as you have found, not always the best route.

I have always found that the best recommendations come from trusted friends or in the absence of that I have always used Checkatrade and engaged tradesmen purely on established feedback .... glad to say that I have yet to be disappointed.

Yes, you need to sort this matter directly ( in the first instance ) with the tradesman you used. Kitchen fitting is an art and a lot of builders will admit that they do not possess the fine skills to make a good job. You really need to get a second opinion on your consideration of a 'really bad job' and perhaps a quote ( or quotes ) to put things right once those things have been firmly established. Have you given the builder every chance to rectify the problems to your satisfaction?
