  • Non uniform day

My Daughter 15 had two non uniform days recently, on both days having found the change for the bus I didn't have the extra £1 to give, she went off in civvies. I have since received 2 emails complaining of her non payment, the funds are to be given to good charities so it seems, I already pay £20 a month by standing orders and didnt take much notice of the first but the second however threatened to put my daughter in isolation as a punishment. Is this legal I wonder, can the school demand a donation? has my daughter gone into a contract by simply not wearing her uniform on those days? They may think she has spent the money but I do want to reply with some understanding of the situation prior to paying.

They're threatening to put her in isolation over £2? :faint2: What is the world coming to?? I'd be putting in a complaint to the headteacher to start with ... and asking for a copy of the schools code of conduct (if they have one) and also their discipline procedures

This might be of use to you - https://www.gov.uk/school-discipline...ons/discipline
    Punishments

Schools can punish pupils if they behave badly.
Examples of punishments (sometimes called ‘sanctions’) include:
    • a telling-off
    • a letter home
    • removal from a class or group
    • confiscating something inappropriate for school , eg mobile phone or MP3 player
    • detention

    Detention

Schools don’t have to give parents notice of after-school detentions or tell them why a detention has been given.

    Physical contact

School staff can use reasonable force to control and restrain pupils. This could include leading a pupil by the arm into a classroom.

    Complaining about a punishment

If you disagree with the way your child’s been punished, first talk to the headteacher. If you’re not satisfied, ask for a copy of the complaints procedure.

Hi Kati, thanks for the response. i was shocked to receive the second email and its contents, I thought a donation was voluntary but this seems to be a purchased option. The sender is deputy head and the school does have financial issues, all parents have been asked for a £50 donation. i'll read the attached. Thanks again

a mention of a complaint to OFSTED or the governors might be worth it too

Is your daughters school an academy??

Yes and won many awards a few years back, then the head teacher (brilliant man ) was sacked and its been downhill ever since, I don't want to create waves but I do want it known what their limitations are, also be able to decide what I spend my disposable income on. Where will it end? school trips come to mind......
