Re: That referendum ...
@leclerc
realistically i dont think, Ireland and Scotland can not go anyware, they dont have the economy to cover there debts. What would Scotland do if we moved all uk forces and services jobs. It may be just smoke and mirrors atm to secure a better deal before a re-vote. but, if not, its perhaps the best time for us to separate.. Its how fance ( or the french people ) react against us that could tip it into a full blown argument.
I bet a number of EU states are SH~ting it over Russia, if the EU unravels.

And interesting point in regards to our Referendum but in the case of The Netherlands:
Point 22 relates to their rejection of the EU accord on Syrian RefugeesAttached Files

Re: That referendum ...
I'll attempt to move the debate further forward again. European Council President Donald Tusk saying UK must accept the four freedoms which include freedom of movement to have access to the EU Market. However, I should just point out that the US has an agreement with the EU but there is no freedom of movement. I think the Journo who wrote this might not understand that the UK can gain access without freedom of movement but MIGHT have to not only pay a fee for the privilege but possibly end up with tariffs.
BTW Rajoy, Spanish PM(and no majority in Spain) has stated that if UK go so do Scotland .

True Katie, the debate's purpose, in my view, is to promote knowledge or learn/ acquire different ways of thinking about things. It's when emotion steps in that causes problems, which then is no longer debate and personally boring for me.Originally posted by Kati View Postaren't debates meant to give EVERYONE a voice?? they may be 'boring' but they help you to understand where people get their ideas from

maybe a little after his lifetime, bet he'd be quite upset about how things are in his beloved Greece these days and as he once saidWasn't Plato Greek? If so, he is in the EU. :tinysmile_twink_t2:

Yes, that's precisely the idea, and pretty much the purpose of forums as well. In Plato's day, forums were platforms for debate.Originally posted by Kati View Postaren't debates meant to give EVERYONE a voice?? they may be 'boring' but they help you to understand where people get their ideas from
No-one is forced to enter a debate, if someone finds them boring then they are free to "Brexit".

The Germans only appear rude and pushy to us because we have different cultures, where they pay for things they expect and will get them, hence no sun beds left when us Brits wake up at lunchtime on our jollies.. We are only just waking up to this way of life, complaining and fighting for fairness hence sites like this. Germany lost the war but imho they are the main winners in the EU and another reason I voted leave.

I could have referenced these academics or even referenced the statements I made, but I am typing with one finger on an iPad without access to the material. I could even quote an extract from an essay what I wrote but am not that conceited, I am not a published academic.
You our made some claims such as the Germans got the ideas from Britain and America , I merely pointed out they could have got them from much earlier dunces such as Plato.

Re: That referendum ...
Yes Plato may have introduced the first concept of eugenics or the dating agency as it were, but that was not within the parameters of the question. If the question were about the pre Darwinian concepts of Eugenics you would have been answering the right question. I never made claims; I merely used indication of or to certain things which confirm the things I was saying, ie i was not making the things up. Sociology was one of my university subjects too as a matter of fact. See the way I used the word 'fact.' Let me just say something about the allusion to IBM and the link whether real, apparent, alleged, or factual, and that is how does a large country like Germany manage the logistics of the death camps without help from the companies? How was Communism operated; Communism like National Socialism requires internal capital to make the logistics operate, that internal aid from the country's internal system. IBM operates computer systems - the Nazis wanted an efficient system so it seems logical to me that the Nazis would require a company with the very capital (competence or abundance in a certain area) they required to make their system work. Was Hitler a train driver, did he have an engineering degree? What about the other Nazis, did they for instance possess these specialist skills? In law, we use hypotheticals to consider what is likely to have happened by comparing it to another equivalent, ie an hypothetical Nazi Germany with the problem of the death camps and efficiently organising logistics, ie transport. As for the IBM denial. If I were a murderer and you couldn't prove all elements of the offence for some reason, would I be charged with that murder? So, because am accused of it (murder) and I did do it but wouldn't admit to it, and you - the state - couldn't prove it, does that mean I did not commit that murder?Originally posted by Berti View PostWhat is sauce for the goose!

Re: That referendum ...
I think many just feel whats's the point, think all politicians are the same and no matter what way they voted they would still be down trodden.
Others (and I don't agree with this) think they have it cushy living on benefits with no effort whatsoever to help themselves, so why bother.
Reading that maybe overseas companies may no longer invest in British companies maybe it's time the fat cats were made to invest their massive bonuses in the companies they run am sure then they would try their utmost to do their best especially the bankers.

Re: That referendum ...
I know we have all seen families where, well let’s just say the mother, aunt and sister are less than 3 people but I still think everyone has a right to vote. Remember that in our lifetime Homosexuality was considered a mental illness!
I also think that prisoners should have the right to vote -OK not to saunter down to the polling station but some facility should be set up inside. After all, many of the people we are voting for are often more crooked then those who are locked up.
The areas with the lowest turnout on polling days are always the ones that need more help and I just think if the politicians knew that they were being judged by these people they would more inclined to heed their requests.
