  • Capital Contribution Order/Rossendales

    Hi

I have never done this before so please bear with me.
6 years after my court case ended for which I was granted Legal Aid I now gt a letter from Rossendales claiming I owe£ 9.5 K towards my legal aid, If I dont pay the heavies will be unleashed!
This seems very wrong can LAA just change their minds whenever they like?

Maybe the Legal Aid Agency are feeling the pinch!

You will need to go back to your Solicitor to find out what happened. Rossendales usually do CCO's through their debt collection arm but it can quickly escalate.

            Hi thanks for the reply
My story thus far: 6 years ago I had a case at Crown Court, I was assesed and granted Legal Aid, the case concluded I was given a suspended sentence and no order was made by the judge relating to costs.
That was the end of that so I thought until about three weeks ago I received a long letter from Rossendales wherein they claimed I owed Legal Aid £ 9.240.00 as a Capital Contribution. They over estimated the value of my house by £100K and claimed I had savings of £20K, failure to pay withing 28 days would mean all sorts of dire consequences. I contacted Crown Court and they confirmed no order for costs had been made meanwhile another letter from Rossendales and numerous phone calls with nobody to speak to when answered just a prerecorded message stating that they tried unsucessfully to get hold of me.
I Spoke to the police and they thought it was a scam as they had never heard of this before.
I then wrote to the LAA and they said a mistake had been made, I presume in granting me Legal Aid, however the ammount I owed was correct and that I should pay it. I have written back to them expressing my concern and that If I did owe this money could I have time to pay, I await their reply.
Meanwhile I have written to the Legal Ombudsman complaining about both the LAA and Rossendales, again I await a reply.
The other day I got yet another letter from Rossendale stating in red that the were going to put a charge on my house and seize goods.
I really dont know where I stand with all of this, help please.

              Re: Capital Contribution Order/Rossendales

              Hi,
Can anyone help please. I had a court case which ended in June, I pleaded guilty and was given a 2yr suspended sentence and 200hrs community service. I received a letter recently from Rossendles saying I Owe £61k for capital contribution order (legal aid).

I don't have any assets or savings and was granted full legal aid And had to pay noting. Rossendales are threatening to put an order on my wife's property that she owns a 100% with no mortgage.

When I first applied for legal aid my wife and I signed the legal aid documents to show our income. Now I am worried because they are threatening to put an order on my wife's property if I don't pay the £61k.

              Can anyone please help.

              Thank you
