brighthouse late fee .

hi guys , due to the fact that i was unexpectedly admitted to hospital i will be 2 days late paying brighthouse , i phoned them and told them my situation on the day i was due to pay and said i would be in myself or get someone to go in for me . now i know they will try to charge a late fee which is £5 per item & the late fee will be more than my weekly payment of £24-60 i have been with them 5 yrs & never missed a payment . will i be within my right to refuse to pay the late payment . thank you
