recived CCC claim Black horse

Bought a car from a dealear(Retail Park) North shile may 2013.Car had HP outstanding finance.Had a check from RAC for Technical report before buying I ordered by phone.RAC also included HP check.I missed this part of report as I was concerned more with Technical side of car as never bought second hand car before .Never ccrossed my mind dealer will sell cars with HP outstanding?Illegal?Black horse has send CCC claim for paying outstanding debt of HP or returning the car back.They are saying I am not inocent buyer!
Looking for advise how to handle this CCCclaim
