      Re: Laima

Hi, the problem is that my name without my knowledge was used to make an account for The Thames Waters company bills, when I lived and rented only a room.It was in 2013,afterwards I have moved, but didn't know anything about the bills, now I got letter from the creditors that I must pay to Thames Water company £1,438,38!I don't know how can I prove it,that I wasn't a owner, just the tenant, because I don't have a contract from that time.Could you please advise me something? Thank you!

Were you claiming benefits of any sort at the tim particularly housing beenfit. If you were it possible thatthe council will have a record of your application which could beobtained with a suject acces erquest and a £10 statutary fee.

The period was from 23/01/13 untill now, still on-going bill. But I had a neighbor at that time and same thing happened to his girlfriend, we lived together in 5 bedroom house maybe for a couple months, but his girlfriend got the first bill from Thames Waters on her name and it was already about £500.I already contacted with him and he could confirm that.

                  Re: Laima

So you have had a bill from Thames water backdated to 23/01/2013, but were only a tenant for a couple of months at that time.

Have you written to Thames Water telling them., and if so what was their response?
Have you told them you are no longer there, so the account won't increase further?

The fact you didn't own the property doesn't mean you had no liability for the water bill. That will depend on your tenancy agreement.

As you lived in a House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) – ie you rented a room in a shared house – it would be inequitable IMO for you to be charged for
all water usage in that property

                  • If you have a complaint you should first contact your water company and raise your concern.
                  • If it's not resolved on your first try, you should escalate your case
                  • If the issue cannot be resolved with the water company, you can take your case to the Consumer Council for Water

                    Re: Laima

Thank you for your advice, I have sent already a complain letter to Thames Waters and must wait for their respond.i had contacted them by phone a few times,it must be recorded, but they didn't react as you see.The other thing is that they gave this dept to creditors now,and they sent to me a letter, that I have to pay or prove by some documentation. I wrote them back, explained all the situation and now waiting for respond.Anyway if it won't work, is it possible to win this case in a court?

                      Re: Laima

If the Debt Collectors make contact again, tell them the bill is disputed and they should refer it back to the water company.

There's a long way to go before courts are involved, so don't worry about that at the moment.
