  • Very old overpayments!

I have been asked for an overpayment of £800 to be paid back from tax year ending 2004! Do I still have to pay this eleven years on?

    an overpayment of what?
Debt is like any other trap, easy enough to get into, but hard enough to get out of.

Do you disagree that you actually had an overpayment or are you disputing the fact that they're asking for a repayment after so long?

I have been through this last year with three so called crisis loans back in 1998, yes 1998

They could not prove i took them out with paperwork, only the computer said i did.
They still took money out of my ESA each week

Government taxation and payments do not become statute barred

Yes Government debts don't go away, although the debt does become statute barred ( i.e. Court Action is not an option) there is no time limit for pursuing payment including the use of debt collection agencies.

Is this Tax Credits? Or a DWP benefit overpayment?

I was told they can even take it out of your futuure benefits, including state pension, but not through the courts if six years has elapsed

Yes direct action includes AOE's without recourse to a court, deductions
from state benefits including pension credits and the state pensions within
strict parameters on how much can be deducted.
