I have just returned to the UK after working abroad for a couple of years. I would like some advise regarding a massive bill from Anglian Water due to a leak in a shop that I rent.

Shop was used as an office for most of the time by one of my sales staff. The bill is for over £5000 which is more than ten times our normal spend.
I had this handed to me by staff on my return, they had offered to pay instalments. We have paid about £1000 to date. I heard a rumour that you can normally negotiate for a leak as long as it is the first time. My other point that I would have made to AW had I been here is, the water that was leaking would not have been going down the drainage. They are charging £2484 for water and £2666 for sewerage. AW also want to estimate next year at same usage with extra charge, so they are looking for £10,505 over the next 11 months.
