  • Another Mortimer Clarke/Cabot issue

    Hi everyone,
I came home from work on Tuesday to a bailiff letter saying I needed to pay £795 by Friday (tomorrow) or he was going to take my stuff. This is the first I have heard about any court claim regarding this debt. I ordered a few things online approx 6 years ago and for one reason or another I couldn't keep up my repayments and it spiraled. the last I heard from them was a letter asking for a payment plan about 4 years ago so I was quite shocked to get this letter on Tuesday. I contacted the Bailiff and he said I need to contact Mortimer Clarke before Friday. Is it as straight forward as just ringing them, and i definitely should have received other letters from the court before this one shouldn't i?

    Thank you

    Good morning welcome to LB,

Is this debt owned by Cabot by any chance?

It would seem that the owner of the debt has obtained " judgement default" either because a county court claim has not been responded at all or was acknowledged but not defended.

How you move home at any point in last 4 years or so since you received the letter asking for payment.

You most certainly need to contact MC asap as the bailiff will continue to add their charges to the debt.

There has been a number of old Cabot owned debts cropping up in the hands of bailiffs recently when the debtor has heard nothing for some years.
I would be worth checking on your credit reference file to see if a CCJ is recorded, ( Noddle from Call Credit is free online) or check Trust On Line the official register of judgments there is a small charge for every address checked.
