  • Computer helpline question

    Hi, Can anyone advise me.
I bought a new Levono c40 computer about 2 weeks ago and it kept firing up pop ups which redirected me to different advertising sites instead of the webpage I was trying to access. I tried installing a pop up stopper which didn't help, I was still getting the adverts. I contacted the levono help centre on live chat. They took control of the computer after asking permission and to cut a long story short they said they had " found several serious problems which needed addressed" ( on a brand new computer??). They then informed me it would cost me £120 for a one-time fix, which I felt I had no choice but to pay as I could hardly use the computer because of the ads. They installed a couple of programmes, fixed the problems then removed the programmes again. The online help Levono supplied was billed as MYTECHGURUS.CO.UK.
I then went onto a Levono buyers forum without interference from ads and discovered that Levono computers come with pre-installed software called superfish which causes these advert problems when trying to surf the web.
Have I been scammed by Levono. I can't find an email address to get in touch with Levono to ask them.

    Re: Computer helpline question

Be very careful a quick google of mytechgurus produced a warning that that site contained malware and could install programs to steal your information.
    Here's a link to a discussion about them:http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...7-3fd1b7e858f7

You haven't been scammed by Lenovo, but by the mytechgurus

Other more technically minded Beagles will doubtlessly be of more help

      Re: Computer helpline question

I had what sounds similar on my iMac, I installed a free virus checker which found 119 "infected" files.

It solved the problem and didn't cost a penny.
