• Council tax summons walker love

Hi new to this, hope someone can help, got up today and there was a knock at the door, didnt answer it, and there was a hand delivered letter from walker love sherriff officers on the mat for council tax bill from 2013 2014.

Firstly last year they took 3 payments from my wages of 1200 i dont even know for which year, but this one for 2013 2014,

i had to up and leave my home becuase of my ex partner, i had some rent arrears and police were trying to get me moved from my ex town but council wouldnt help becuase i has some arrears and also they wanted me to turn some things in house back to orignal at tune of £300o pounds,

i couldnt stay there anymore so up and left, moved away got a flat hundreds of miles away, carriedon working, this was in nove 2013 i left but this bill is also for following year and i wasnt living at address,

i had fallen on hard times, had a accident and crushed my shoulder, still waiting on operation, sick pay ran out, bf took me in, he has own house,

i have nothing to my name, and had to claim esa, and then i recieved letter from council from old area then thissummons this morning left me shaking,

i am also the absent parent because my son choice to stay with his dad, never had any money from him for bringing up my son but when i started working, he had shared care and took me to csa because i was making money and he didnt have a job,

whilst ive been off my work ive now lost my salary and evenually when i do get back to work ill have to start paying £500 a month again for my son,

i havent a penny to my name, the csa have written to say they are taking £20 a month for my son from esa, my son is 16 and has thousands in the bank, and his dad is forcing him to stay on at school so he can keep getting benefits,

now this morning i have recieved this bill formsho of two thpusand pounds, i get £69 every week now and i dont know what to do,

my bf is paying his mortgage etc and all i pay for is food, i dont smoke or drink and im not well,

i cant even tell him, hed probably throw me out, because he doesntb ven have a creditn ard or debt of any kind,

i cant have them turning up at his door, everything in this in this house is his, i left everything behind, what am i going to do

Hi Help123, welcome to LB
I'm sure you will get lots of advice on both this thread and your other one (http://www.legalbeagles.info/forums/...839#post518839) from our knowledgeable Beagles!

First things first, you have to contact the council and ask them:
1. How many Liability Orders they have against you?
2. The dates they were obtained?
3. The addresses they were for?
4. The period of time each covers?
5. How much each one was for?
6. How much is still outstanding?
7. The dates they were passed on for enforcement?

It is fine to do this by phone and they HAVE to give you that information.

Secondly: you have to contact the bailiffs and find out what the payments taken last year were for

If you are being charged for CT for a period you were not in the property then you should be able to appeal against that charge. Did the council know when you left? If your ex was still living in the house after you left, then he should be liable for the CT for that time period (and not you)!

I'm sure you will get lots more advice soon ...

Re: Council tax summons walker love

Hi kati thanks for replying, this has occured because ive had to claim esa because my sick pay ran out, they shared my info with the councils, i recieved a envelope a week and a half ago for my old coucil with copys of my council tax, scott and co used to take £60 a month right up till 2002" i was on benefits and had children, they told me the debt had been cleared, my then husband mobed in and he took over the council tax till dec 2009 when he moved out, i wasnt working but had small savings i lived on till 2010 when i started working on a adhoc basis , so only earned as i worked, its my own fault ive gotten in this mess, they have sent a bill from 2002 which i know wasnt due, theres one for 10/11 full amount 11/12 they said is settled because they took it staright from my wages, 13/14 outstanding but i left the property in nov 2013 no i didnt tell anyone i was leaving and no one still doesnt know where i am, i never want my ex to find out, my now partner has a house so he has let me stay with him, but we have no financal relationship, the csa is taking £5 a week from the 77 pounds, and i have to pay for food, im in scotland i have no assetts no furniture nothing, and this isnt my house, i love my partner so much but i think it is not fair on him.

Hi,

What exactly does this letter say, is it a letter/summons/summary warrant ?

You will now have to deal with the Sheriff Officers as they will be acting for the Council.
