Re: Help
I know this will hit a nerve with some people but they are entitled to their opinion. I've been with brighthouse for 4 years. I had to go with them as I left my ex husband and he kept the house, the cars and tried to keep the kids. I got the kids back. He abused us all for 18 years. I met a new guy who took on my six kids and the real dad is not allowed to see my kids anymore. So I went with brighthouse as my little lad got diagnosed with leukaemia and we had nothing. Then my husband had to stop work as he was diagnosed with osteoarthritis. I've kept up payments for four years but when my little lad was really really sick I had to sell some things to make ends meet. Now my son is in remission and were struggling to keep up payments. Me and my husband only eat once a day as we can't afford food or heating for us but I've now stopped paying brighthouse and give them a letter explaining our situation and offering a lower payment. I need to know if I can be arrested if it goes to court as I've not got all the items. I want to pay it as I've had the items. One policewoman said its not an arrest able offence unless it was fraudulent which it isn't but I want to checkOriginally posted by nemesis45 View PostHi Welcome to LB,

Re: Help
Hi I'm so sorry to hear about your little boy, it's good that he is in remission!!
If you have sold some of the items from Brighthouse the company could make
a complaint to the police, but may be reluctant to do so given there none to savoury
reputation.
I presume that the items were on a rental agreement??
Are you receiving all the benefits you are entitled to??
An Income & expenditure statement would help you budget for any payments.

Re: Help
I'm reapplying for DLA for my son as he is still not well a lot of the time. I've not told brighthouse I've sold anything as I want to pay them. I just can't afford £121 a week. Yes it's a lot but over the years I've had to buy everything as my ex had all our things. Now I want to get back on track but this is the only thing now that's hanging over my head. I don't want to end up in prison as I can't let my youngest be without me whilst he is in high risk of relapsing

Re: Help
Hello Ivy,
I sincerely doubt that you would end up in prison with a seriously ill vulnerable child to care for.
£121.00 is a great deal for anyone to find on a weekly basis
If your husband is unable to work is he getting all the benefits he is entitled to?

Re: Help
Hi Ivy
welcome to LB!
I too am pleased that your son is in remission, and would like to second nemesis45 in his comment on the wealth of knowledge from the Beagles :tinysmile_grin_t: We will not judge you either ... just offer as much advice as we can!
We had a thread on here not so long ago where someone was having problems with Bh, so I will ask you the same questions if that's OK
To add to this, I would ask - have you contacted Bh to tell them of your difficulty in maintaining payments? They might surprise you and offer to lower payments for a while.Originally posted by Kati View PostHow long have you been paying for the items separately - are any (or all) of them paid up to over 1/3 of the total cost?
1, If they are over 1/3 paid, BH would have to get a court order to get them back (they are 'protected' after 1/3 is paid off).
2, If they are not over 1/3 paid, BH would still have to get a court order to re-possess the goods (and they cannot force entry to your property either
Have a look at your agreement(s) find out how much you have paid off each item
...
Also, have you got Optional Service Cover on your goods (these are 'extra' insurance payments on top of your weekly payment for the items)?
if yes:
1, Did you actually need it? - are you insured through your normal house insurance etc...
2, Were you given the option of taking it or not (asked if you have house/contents insurance)?
I'm sure you will get lots of help and advice from other Beagles too

Re: Help
OK
no problem ....
As Nem says, there is no way you will go to prison for this. BH would have to refuse your offer of lower payments and take you to court first (which I cannot see happening
) Have you got an income/expenditure sheet that you could use to show how much you can realistically afford?
I would suggest that you keep everything in writing - that way you can look back on it if you need to. Also ... an interview with someone from your local CAB office might be useful (they can help to ensure everything is being done correctly - and might add a little strength to your request for lower payments)

Re: Help
To be honest, there's not a lot Bh can do about that ... it's been done and you can't get those things back. Your main concern right now is to try and get reduced payments in place and to make sure that your family are getting all the benefits you are entitled to.
As I suggested in post #12, an appointment at your local CAB would help in this respect. It would ensure you are getting all your benefits and that you are not having to pay out more than you can afford.
