  • Questions re Experian Credit Report

    Hi there,

I have a few questions regarding my Experian Credit Report and would love if one of you lovely people would mind seeing if you now the answers. I would ask Experian myself but i'm too scared Thank you so much in advance!

6 and a half years ago (2008) I got into bad debt and decided to walk away from it all and left the country. This included credit cards, a bank account overdraft and a mortgage.

Curiosity has got the best of me as I am now in a better position in life and I am considering buying a new house and I have now logged into my Experian Report all these years later to see how it looks.

    Surprisingly, my score is 840.

What I would like to know is:

    1. The address in the my details section is for my old address where I had the debts - although my new address where I live now is in the "linked addresses" section - If I update my details correctly, is there a chance that those old debts will track me down? I have already had some letters to my new address and have ignored them.
    2. Some of the defaulted accounts are due to come off my file (which I believe is 6 years after the default date), when that happens, if I receive an old debt letter from an account that is no longer on my Credit report, can I just ignore it?
    3. I got a Capital One Credit Card about 3 years ago (i pay it regularly), strangely it is not showing on my credit report - should I just ignore that?
    4. Can a person have two credit reports? I ask as I am tempted to try another credit report company but again, i am a bit scared if old debts catch up with me.

Thanks once again for reading this post, I appreciate it and am so grateful!:tinysmile_twink_t2:

Re: Questions re Experian Credit Report

According to Experian themselves (http://www.experian.co.uk/consumer/e...dit-score.html) 840 is a 'fair' credit rating:
    Understanding your score

Your Experian Credit Score is essentially a snapshot of your current credit status and can be broken down into five categories; very poor (0 - 560), poor (561 - 720), fair (721 - 880), good (881 - 960) and excellent (961 - 999).
Once a 'debt' becomes statute barred (with no payments or acknowledgements from yourself for 6yrs in England, 5yrs in Scotland) then they become unenforceable.

Noddle (https://www.noddle.co.uk) are a completely free credit check site (no need to pay, no trials) - it might be worth checking that one too

Debt is like any other trap, easy enough to get into, but hard enough to get out of.

It doesn't matter where your journey begins, so long as you begin it...

Re: Questions re Experian Credit Report

      Hi,
      1. You can write to the data controller of Experian with corrections on the data held. (anyone searching the report would find you via the linked address anyway)
      2. When a debt is removed from CRA files it still exists , it may or may not be statute barred at this point.
If pursued for an SB debt, one must inform the creditor in writing that it is SB and you will not be paying, if the company continues to press for payment it may amount to harassment.
      3. There are 3 main credit reference agencies: Experian, Equifax and CallCredit ( CC has a free offshoot called Noddle)
Not all creditors report to all 3 agencies so reports may vary.

Note a debt may be statute barred but will still appear on credit files if its default still has time to run.

Should it not be your thread on MSE, this answer to a similar question about the linked address should be useful.
