  • hello and query about unfair treatment at work.

    Hi all.
I have worked in my current job for almost 6 years, part time. I was hired on the minimum wage and am still on it. A few months ago another part timer was hired to do the same job as me but on different shifts, but because they struggled to find anyone to do it on minimum wage , they offered 30p an hour more than me. So now there there is someone doing the exact same job as me on similar shifts on a higher wage than me , even though I have been there 6 years and him only 3 months. Is this legal? And can I do anything about this? This is not sex discrimination as we are both male.
    Thanks

    Hi Gaiastellar and welcome ,

Beagles with in depth knowledge on employment law will be along soon. In the meantime, I don't think it's unlawful as such and IMVHO your best bet would be to point out to your employer that this makes you feel undervalued, that you struggle on the minimum wage, and request a suitable pay rise to reflect your experience and loyal service.

See what the experts think, though!

    Good luck xx
