  • Tv licensing fiasco. Please help

    Good morning all.
My partner is in a bit of a sticky situation.
in June 2014, after 2 12 hour night shifts, a tv licensing chap woke up my boyfriend at about midday. He tick tick ticked and signed the form saying we watch live tv.
now we rented an ensuite room in a large house. The house was covered by a tv licence, but we had no need for one in our room. We watched Netflix in our room (which I don't think had an aerial port) and live tv when we were having dinner. so the form filled out by my partner was factually correct.
we phoned tv licensing after to say that we don't need a licence for our room as we don't watch live tv in it. They then wiped the 'debt' and said we didn't need a licence.
i pop back to pick up post and find a court summons.
we have pleaded not guilty, because we had no need for a licence. I just now need to know what to do next. After many hours spent on the phone to tv licensing, we have gathered no information. They won't even tell us when we phoned in the past to request telephone conversation transcripts (I know this needs to be done via writing). But in order to request them, we need dates for the telephone conversations.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I know the evidence against us looks strong as the form was filled out and signed by my partner, but it is factually correct. But misinterpreted.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as needless to say we have never been in this situation before.
    please and thank you
