  • Problem van bought on ebay

Bought camper van on ebay last week - advertised as a Westfalia T2 Restored.
I'm told by an expert ..... 'that the camper is not a Westfalia, but a converted panel van worth about half the price"

The restoration pictures failed to show a cab with ripped seats, and black tape holding together the steering column. He also didn't mention the window that won't wind down ..... it also won't start!

Feeling like a fool for not going to see the van and parting with cash!!! Completely out of character to be so reckless. The seller says he doesn't have the cash to return to me and won't take it back and sell it on!

    HELP

all I can suggest is you go through the Ebay complaints procedure. In my experience they do tend to favour the buyer in disputes, also did you pay with Paypal?

Thanks, but vehicles aren't covered by eBay Buyer Protection. I paid by bank transfer - really daft!!!

why would anyone pay for a vehicle that they havent seen,if the seller has no money to pay on return of the campervan theres probably only one course of action and if he aint got the money to pay there are problems there.

I buy loads on ebay and having read horror stories about sellers over the years, before i even bid i check a few things out
!,sellers feedback checking what they have sold and if anything similar to what is offered has been sold
2,Adress if the seller has put it on the ad ,will not buy from a trader who has no bricks and mortar address
3,the location most items i pay cash on collection so try to buy within a reasonable distance from me
4,i check that others are bidding ,if there are no bids maybe something is wrong
Finally i will only collect from an adress thats sent to me by seller through ebay, all simple steps to take to avoid being ripped off

Can I suggest people Google this

              safe buying on ebay

It brings up loads of safe buying advice, including some for specific items, known scams etc.... Well worth a look.

If the item is not as advertised, it would be misrepresentation.

If the value is over £10,000, it may take you outside the scope of "small claims" court.

Did you get, or can you find, a "bricks & mortar" address for the seller?
