  • mortgage help

Hi guys, I really need some help.
This situation has got me at my wits end and i have no idea what to do it is affecting me financially and medically.
I currently live with my parents myself and my father are on the mortgage i am paying all the household bills my parents are not working and claiming disability. but they dont help me out with any of the bills. I currently have a friend who is renting a room to help out. My parents dont classify any bills i pay they see it as board but the fact is they come out of my account. This isnt the main problem i am facing the thing is i have no space in the house at all i have my bedroom and access to kitchen and bathroom but that is it. I have to live in my room all my available time at home because my parents are a bit of a hoarder and the living room is unusable because they have so much stuff in there the kitchen is practically the same. Is there anything i could do to make them sort some space out for me as i am at my wits end and also i am thinking of just leaving.

Try talking to them or ask a close relative or good family friend to help

If you pay half the mortgage, how do they justify seeing you paying the bills a board?

Although this may at first, sound like the easy option, do bear in mind that, if the house ends up being repossessed, the lender will very likely sell it below market value or auction it off for peanuts, add all sorts fees and charges, and chase you for the resulting shortfall. Bearing in mind that the statute of limitations on mortgage shortfalls is 12 years :scared: rather than 6, this wouldn't be wise! :nono:

You may want to look at this thread, where the OP has a £91k shortfall and is considering bankruptcy: http://www.legalbeagles.info/forums/...pre-bankruptcy

Flaming Parrot is quite correct if your name is on the mortgage you would be responsible for a proportion of any outstanding debt.

Is it just yourself and your father on the mortgage and land registry?

What was the reason for putting it in your name as well?

Is there much equity in the property at all?

What would your parents do if you left? do you think they have considered this ?

If your father is named on the mortgage and is in receipt of benefits then there is a good chance he can claim his share (50%) of the mortgage interest from the DWP. At least that would help to ease some of the tension and possible resentment in the household. I have to rush out now but I'll post up some more information on how to do this tomorrow
