This does sound pretty awful. I can not understand how he cost you 24K when your mother died and 100K loss on the sale of a house. It s possible that this is serous fraud.
Sometimes you get well meaning but naive police who beleve that blood s thicker than water. I speak from personal experience here as my wife was talked out of pressing charges for assault against her son (my stepson) . He also stole from her (and me) . He was a boy with many many problems
when my mother was in hospital dieing. My son was cashing in her weekly pension and depleteing her bank cards. He was black mailing her saying if he ever found her unconscious .He would not ring a ambulance. She was a diabetic. My mum had taken out loans for him and was in debt. When she died she had hardly any money me and my wife where skint. Her house was a mess . All we needed to do was to settle her bills and get her buried. We had to get her buried quickly ect. So we had to use a solictors to settle the estate and guarrent the bills .I was in debt and all i wanted was a loan to pay up her gas electric bills and get the stuff from the house to the auctioneers to pay sum of the loans and to bury her .I had no money no car .So we had to use a solictors and use the estate as collateral .My son was taking all of her money whilst she was in hospital for a few months .i didnt no anything about thisIf he would have not touched any of her money for a few months I could have done this myself .So i ended up with a solictor at £6.66permin.Had to pay household insurance to cover the property at £426permonth incase he set fire to it and as the property was the only asset .The solictor insisted to make sure that they got paid

so just because he took from whilst she was in hospital and he deplted her money. i get lumbered witha £24k bill. as for the 100k .He wa taking money off her which she normally would have spent doing the house up .The whole house ended up getting damp in every walls as it was a 500yr house made of limestone 6 bedrooms .The kitchen had black walls her heating system was shot.he took over 50k from her over a 6yr period .He was sometimes leaving her with £3 a week in her pocket.I never knew this.I only got told this after she died .I got told he would lie to her and say that he own money to people and if he didnt pay up he would get knee capped. She would belive him.So if the house wasnt in the state that it was in the house would have been sold for £260k .AS me and my sister had a 50% stake in da house .I would have got about £130k deducting cost of selling the property . So with that I should of been ablt to buy a house for myself and my wife and paid of my debt.
But now I have to pay rent for the rest of me life as I dont have enough to buy another property .I wish i could sue him for £300k thats about what i have lost over the years having him

Ths is really a very sad story. If you have proof that your son defrauded your mother then I am afraid that you need to make a formal complaint to the police.

As for the solicitor, well what can I say £400 ph is dreadfully high but what s done is done. For that amount of money he should have told you that all debts and bills were payable out of the estate and not your personal liability. If he didn't do that a complaint to the regulatory body.

However what is done is done and can not be undone. There are many benefits to renting, the main one is that you will never be short of money for repairs.
Debts can be sorted depending on what they are , how much are yours and how much your sons?

I am also concerned for insurance of £460 per month for an empty house, who arranged that?

              Have you made a will?

You should, unless you want your regrettable crotchspawn to inherit under the intestacy rules.

solictor took the insurance out incase of any more damage done to the property . I agreed at the time had no choice

The solictor did tell me that all bills where payable out of the estate.I was just saying that if my mum had some cash left in her accounts the solictor would have not been required

Could you run that past us again, please? Who has been fined for allegedly failing to notify DVLA of change of ownership?
