Hi Everyone
Just found this website whilst looking for advice regarding Santander and PPI payments.
Some help/advice would be greatly appreciated before I go down the wrong track.
I have a Burton's store card which I have had for years and recently discovered I have been paying PPI. The original holders of the card were GE Money - now Santander. It seems I signed for the card in June 2002 (I thought it was much earlier than that but will agree to differ), but Santander cannot find the original credit agreement. However they are saying that a policy summary and policy document was mailed to me for review and that I had 30 days when I could cancel. I have absolutely no recollection of receiving such a document - I signed for and received the card in the shop.
They also state in the letter "there was no requirement upon us to record the sales process so we have no way of knowing what took place on 22 June 2002. However, if any of the matters that you suggest took place, you would have been able to call at any time in the first 30 days and we would have removed the insurance from your account. Since then, this insurance has been clearly shown on your statements, when a balance has been outstanding, and could have been cancelled or a a claim made at any time."
When I received this I thought they were pushing their luck but it seems I have to complain through FLA in London - not the FSA. On the FLA website they state that unless I have further proof of mis-selling they won't consider my complaint.
Where do I go from here? Is it worth complaining since it's my word against Santander - I was there, they weren't. But I have no paperwork from the original document.
Some advice would be very greatfully received.
Thanks,
Barbara
