People should not buy their own, they should be given to you by a friend as a gift, then you can go to good bookshops who sell books on the subject, that's the way most Tarot readers learn their trade and some charge for the service, which is unlike a genuine medium who treats his/her ability as a gift from those above and most do take a 'donation' for their time.

I had a great reading from a spiritulist when I was first married, what he told me stuff he could not have possibly have known about me and my family. However, he told me something which later proved to be correct in a weird sort of way and we could not fathom this at the time he told me.

Its all con same as a person can get you to write down the number they will predict by answering some questions as Paul Daniels said Quote Theres no such thing as magic its all an illusion Unquote making an aeroplane dissapear is physically impossible but David copperfield did
The same can be applied to Hypnotism only some can be put under and the hypnotist knows this same as these so called physics and mediums only target certain people.Remember no one knows the human mind and why people act and react in different ways ,
I know there are some who believe but many dont same as some believe in a god but as the first quote says you can buy a book and learn?

I've enjoyed reading this discussion, and I applaud Cosmo's restraint in holding back and allowing it to take place - along with the respect everyone has for each others' beliefs and opinions. Sure - there are many deceivers down here in this place, and many of us are, or have been, deceived. That's why we're here, I guess - and Cosmo knows this.

FWIW, I do not believe that the primitive creatures that we are (and I submit innumerable Jermey Kyle shows as my evidence) would be capable of understanding the huge picture that I suspect is perhaps the true reality. That old Jack Nicholson quote from 'A Few Good Men' always haunts me - "You can't handle the truth." I really don't think us guys here can comprehend what the **** life is all about any more than those somewhat feral shepherds could back in the days of old. So they wrote a "Janet and John" version, I guess.

It's good that we are soooo much cleverer than we used to be, but with matters such as this, I feel we have progressed very little. Perhaps our discussion here is correcting this.

Oh how much I agree with that statement Bill. I have long said that humans are not half as clever as we think we are. In matters spiritual, or much relating to the brain, I think there is way way more to learn than we have already learnt. I believe also that often the individual has a far better insight into their own brain and its workings than all the doctors in the world can come up with, despite all their pills, potions, therapies etc... There is something in all of us which is intuitively instinctive, and sometimes, just occasionally, I think we all get a glimpse of something which is deeply spiritual. When those 'golden moments' hit you, they do so in the same that a 'golden section' for anyone who has ever studied art, music or similar hits you on analysis. They are almost literally mind blowing, and perhaps this is why few can really see much beyond the immediate here and now. Maybe there is a whole different plain of existence even here in this earthly world, accessible only to a few, as for many it would simply be too much to handle.

I'd like to thank Cosmic for allowing this discussion to continue, its very enlightening with all of us having differing or similar thoughts about the subject.
For the avoidance of doubt I admire those who can read the Tarot, it takes a long time and a huge amount of dedication to study the cards/book and to learn how to interpret them and their meanings properly. I for one can't wait for Cosmic's predictions, come on Cosmic I'm waiting.

I have not consulted a 'medium' or a 'spiritualist' .....I'm on the fence regarding their 'gifts' I can't say it's twaddle because I've not had first hand experience.
Tarot cards........seen them...seen them read.......seen the reliance some folks have on them.......don't believe in them whatsoever as they are open to interpretation and are mass produced.
My star sign is the same as millions of other people..same things can't happen to all of us.

One thing said to me,,,,that is totally irrefutable and I will admit I'm wrong,,and I am not a liar or a cheat..I WILL admit it openly,,as long as if it's wrong I'm allowed to state that too

I've had my palm read, at the time I said load of twaddle, but I did it to shut the ex mother in law up. The reader looked at me, she was from Devon and I'm from Camden, and she described to me mystery Graddaddy.

She told me he was singing the fields of Athenrie (grandad's favourite song) and that a "red headed young Irishman" was standing behind me with his arms about my shoulders. (Aiden)

She then told me, "in your life the letters G, A, and E will be important. You will travel far and I see a green bush with a white flower".

My hubby and son are both G, Aiden starts with an A and my mum and dearly missed gran are E's.

This is extremely interesting.

When this post first appeared I thought it was a straightforward p**s-take. But it has provoked some extremely generous personal revelations and meaningful discussion - what can be more important to any of us than the nature of reality?

Just to clarify where I come from IIOAITA (qv Bill's precedent teehee):

I personally aspire to neither believe nor disbelieve anything at all until I know it in my heart to be true/untrue (although that means being on constant alert for hidden prejudice, cynicism and superstition in oneself - not easy!).

re: Tarot cards - the value of tarot cards, like any other pictorial system, glyph or spiritual "road map" lies in the images themselves, not the pieces of cardboard. Mandalas, the Tree of Life, etc. are other examples of pictorial systems that aid contemplation and help people to move from the logical/linear left brain to the intuitive right brain - and from thence to areas of consciousness normally drowned out by mechanical psychological chatter. It can thus enable us to tune in to psychological/emotional/spiritual areas of being that are hard to access in the normal left-brain (mundane) frame of mind. Some people also may have the empathy to help enable this in others.

Am very dubious indeed re people who wish to chat with/claim to be able to summon dead relatives - shouldn't the dead have something better to do? Why impede them? (some religions, for example, have particular caveats about not messing with (calling on) the (especially newly) dead as it impedes their progress to higher planes.

Also feel strongly that there should be a particular circle of Hell (whatever Hell might be!) reserved for those who exploit the vulnerable, by pretending spiritual powers that they do not have, for their personal worldly profit.
