Hi. I'm Ben from near Chesterfield, Derbyshire.
I've been pursued by about 18 months by O2, then several flavours of debt collection agency, for a debt that I never incurred.
I went into a Carphone Warehouse in early 2011 to get an iPhone, after my work phone was taken back. They started putting the contract online with O2, but then the Carphone Warehouse system part crashed, and they couldn't actually process my payment. The guy apologised, and I left frustrated and empty-handed.
I went online on O2's website the very same day and ordered an iPhone there, which arrived the next day.
I've since been - I would say, harassed - by debt collectors chasing a £900+ debt, for a phone I never got.
But I'm determined not to give in. I would happily pay any debt of my own, but this isn't real, and I'm not going to be bullied into handing over a three-figure sum. I've told them I'm prepared to go to court if need be. I would rather spend the £900 on legal backup than hand it to these bullies.
The company names have changed. I don't know whether it's that the account has been sold on a few times, or whether they just try different brand names until you cave in.
Any feedback welcome of course.
- Ben
