3 phone contract

Afternoon everyone im a legal beagles virgin, my wife last june took out a new contract over the phone with 3 for what she thought was a year as we are going to Canada in June for aprox 6-8 months. On phoning 3 they told us its a contract for 24 months and the rest of the monthly payments would be payable roughly £200 pounds for 15 months (I said we were going now and wanted an early settlement) The phone she got last June was a very basic model and cant be worth anything like £200 and i offered to pay a settlement of £100 but they are insisting on £200. Is there anything we can do apart from throwing the phone in a river as we leave ?

When I took my contract out they read the main part of the T&Cs over the phone so I knew well my contract was 18 months with them.
Did you not get any confirmation info either by post or email?
