Repaying debt - URGENT PLEASE

Just a quick one..........

I have just set up a payment plan with CRS for a payday loan.

I asked them for their account number and sort code so I can pay them through my internet banking as I did not want to give them my bank details for them to empty my account (as I have heard this has happened many times before)

Does anyone know if they can see my account details by paying them this way, or will I be safe?

I need to make this payment today so an urgent reponse would be very very much appreciated.

Hello Burmacat and welcome to Legal Beagles.

You are quite right to be concerned about a DCA emptying your bank account as a number of them tend to do. You would be better getting their bank account details and paying it directly into their account at a branch of their bankers local to where you live. This way they don't get your bank details and they get the money straightaway, as soon as it is logged in by the bank's counter staff, as long as you don't pay by cheque. This is about the best way I can think of to stop the DCA ripping you off.

Whether or not they can see your bank account details, you will not have set up a direct debit or continued payment mandate on a debit card, so they should be unable to rob all your money that way.

Thanks to you both.

See when I have made payments to my sister via online banking, she can only see a reference number, but no details of my account.

But I didnt know if this was the same for business bank accounts and if they can see different info?

Do it as a funds transfer - they just see the name then. Also instruct your bank not to make any payments other than those you make. New legislation allows you to demand this of them, and if they make payments, they would have to refund you.

follow labmans advicebut do it wiritng to whatever address they administer your branch from. get it signed for that way they have no wriggle room .
