Thought I have better pop in and say hello.....

Got a problem with Mint credit card It has been dormant for several years, cut up the card a long time ago. I have received a bill for £89 ish, rang up and had it cancelled as I have not used it, at this point I also 'closed' the account. The next month I got this bill again, rang them up and said they would cancel and refund the late payment fee..OK
I had a letter chasing me for payment, ignored as I was under the impression it was all canceled. Onday last week I was getting inundated with text messages from Mint, fed up I rang them. It seems that this is for a payment protection plan that I got when I opened the account and is automatically renewed every 3 years.......

Person was most unhelpful and told me the onus was on me to cancel the policy, I did not even know I had a policy and so therefore no account number.
emaild their complaints department last week, nothing yet but now have an Unpaid Marker on my credit score

Any advice welcome, thanks...

Hello vamps and welcome to Beagles.
First off only deal with these people by letter. I would write telling them the card was cancelled and when , as you had no idea you had PPI on the account or any policy then how were you expected to cancel it.
If you have any statements I would check and see if they have been taking PPI every month, if this is the case and it was mis sold then you can reclaim it all back plus interest.
If you don't have anything to check then you can send a SAR (Subject Access Request)
