  • Equita Ballifs

Hi to everybody, I've just joined today and would like to offer advice to anyone who i.s having trouble with Equita Ballifs. I was having problems paying my council tax and it mounted up due to changes is circumstances. Equita Ballifs got involved and was wanting £60 a month which I just didn't have. They said they could lower it to £40 so I paid this for a few months but still was struggling. I stopped paying this also. I started getting letters saying they were coming to the house. I phoned up and asked if I could pay 10 a month as I was on Incapacity Benefit. They said they now wanted the full amount or they would come to the house to remove goods. I phoned the council and asked them for help and they even said because I was on benefits they should accept small payments. Anyway Equita would accept nothing apart from the full amount. They kept on sending threating letters saying the were coming the following week and even said ballifs had been upto my house and had a list of good they had identified for removal. This was total nonsence. Eventually I got in touch with my councils social welfare department. They help with debt problems. They got in touch with the Council Tax and now pay direct to the council only £5 a month. I still get letters from Equita but now just throw them in the bin. Pay direct to the council is my advice to anyone who is having problems. If you do this they will accept your payments and your debt will come down no matter how slowly. Equita are nothing but bully boys and liars.

    Re: Equita Ballifs

Equita are only doing what the council employ them to do and encourage them to do. If the council does not take them to task over their behaviour then they will carry on.

You should make a formal complaint about this. Have you done so?
