  • Regal Credit Text Message

Hi everyone, firstly apologies if I am posting on the wrong thread/topic etc. but this is my first time so please treat me gently.

For the last couple of weeks I have been receiving BT text service messages as follows:

Your debt has been passed on to Regal Credit. Please call on 08717 etc. asking me* to call and quote a referrence number.

I am unaware who this company are and what this 'debt' could be as I have not received any correspondence regarding any debts that I am unaware of.

I dont want to ring on this premium phone line just to give some fly by nights a 'foot in the door' by acknowleging that someone lives here.

    * they do not quote a name or details of the original creditor.

Hope there is someone out there who can help ease my mind on this matter.

    TIA

    Mike

Until they send you a letter ignore any of these advances.
The ONLY way to deal with a DCA is via snail mail.
It focuses the mind and gives a great papertrail should the need arise.

Thank you to Curlyben for the quick reply.

Unfortunately I still feel a little in the dark about what the debt could be but will await written details and until then I have been able to stop the BT messaging service all together.

This will stop the annoying calls but cannot help feeling a little bit like an ostrich dunking my head in the sand. I guess this is how this type of organisation gets its leads by playing on peoples minds making them worry about the uglies knocking on the door.

Anyway, thanks again for your help.

I would still like to hear from anybody else who has any similar calls/contact from them.

        Hi Mike,

I wouldn't worry, it may have nothing to do with you at all, or someone with a similar name, Ive had cards through saying someone will visit me (no specifics just we have your debt), and Ive been waiting 6 months for them to come. The onus is on them to prove the debt exists and that it belongs to you.

Id sit tight and do nothing.

I've dealt with ALOT of DCA and they are all basically the same.
Get you on the phone and make empty threats that make you take rash decisions that you later regret
Feel free to answer the phone to them, BUT ask for everything in writing for the avoidance of doubt.
Don't be drawn into a conversation as all they want is payment for whatever the debt is.

The reason why I advise to keep everything in writing is so you can keep your composure and make sure you are not harassed into making an admission or payment on something you are unsure about.

I really do appreciate how you feel about this contact. But believe me the more I read about this subject the more I realise that this geezer (Curlyben) is THE man.

              Thanks again

PS, I would answer the call but it is always via the text messaging service so there is nobody, (who is actually alive), to talk to!

Anyway, you have both convinced me that a wait and see policy is the best.

Keep up the good work and kudos for a great forum.
