  • Is there a screw lose with M&S?

    Hi all,
Just want to know what the legal rights are with the following.
My girlfriend was bought an M&S birthday cake a couple weeks back and was shocked to find a 1inch rusty screw inside!! Lucky she has this way of peeling off the icing first so luckily didnt bite onto it, otherwise she would of definitely chipped her teeth or maybe even worse. I have a few good photos of it for records.
Please help, what can be done here?

    Kind regards,
    Mikey

Have you telephoned M&S? If so, what did they say?

Hi Amy, well my gf's mum did take the cake back to the store and they offered her... wait for it...a £25 MARKS & SPENCER GIFTVOUCHER!! Thats terrible! Is this sort of thing not a serious legality to them? If the worst happened and she for example broke her jaw then I'm sure it would be a completely different story, I'm sure! She refused the voucher and has wrote a letter of complaint to them. While we are waiting for the reply I just wanted to get any info on the matter.

        Hi MrBees,

You need to contact the Environmental health department at your local council. It is their duty to investigate all food contamination reports.
Borrow money from a pessimist -- they don't expect it back.

Cheers Happyolddog, with that in mind I just did some research and came acrross a news report from the BBC check it out -
          http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/w...re/6242082.stm

..here Morrisons were fined over 4 K for selling a sandwich to a lady with a screw inside. I see that it is in breech of Health regulations and is actually breaking the law!

What are you hoping to achieve as a result of this?

            Apology? / Money? / other?
