  • Fence next to a public path

We have moved into a property that is next to a public path (pedestrians only). The border is our property and then the path. We are looking to add a fence to the existing 6ft hedges that currently line the path. We want to do this for added security and privacy. Is there any restrictions on height that we need to adhere to?

    Welcome.

You may need planning permission for a fence exceeding 1 metre in height adjacent to a public footpath.

Planning department at your local council should be able to give you the definitive answer to this.
