  • Mortgage account numbers

    Good morning Legal Begals,

if anyone can assist me it would be much appreciated. My sister and myself are executors on our parents estate. All good. We have come upon a slight issue regarding providing a mortgage account number. My parents lived in the same house all their lives, the mortgage was paid off over 40 years ago. I have spoke to the lender, they have no records.
How do you find a mortgage account number? There is no paperwork regarding this aspect.

    Hopefully

If the lender has no records and your parents have not kept any paperwork I doubt there is anywhere that has the number. Their bank won't have records from 40 years ago either.

How did you find out who the lender was?

Why do you need the number?

      Hi,

thank you for taking the time to reply. The conveyance company who were foisted upon us have requested it.
The Mortgage lender is named on the title register from when the property was purchased in by my parents in 1968. Thank you for any further insight you maybe able to provide.

      Regards

      Stephen

        Hi,

sorry I forgot to add, both parents have passed away. Probate has been approved, the property is sold STTC.

        Regards

Sounds like a pointless piece of box ticking by the conveyancing company. The number would be of no practical use to them as the mortgage lender has no records anyway. If necessary get the mortgage lender to put it in writing to you and send it to the conveyancer.

Hold on. Is the OP saying that the mortgage has been repaid in full but that the entry in the charges register of the Land Registry title has not been removed? If so, that entry needs to be cleared. This is not 'box ticking'.

Yes indeed, if that is what's happened. If so the OP has omitted to tell us the most important part of the story!
