  • Admin charges from hire car company for parking fines

After a recent RTA (not my fault!) I was given a hire car by my insurance company. In the stress and chaos of the aftermath, I forgot to update the hire car reg on my parking app and paid full days parking with my own car reg......9 times!!! It took that long before I realised that I needed to update the reg to the hire car on the app. Anyway, I then received 4 parking fines which I appealed and they were reduced to £20 each. I paid the fines.

I knew I had done this 5 more times so I was waiting to receive the fines so that I could appeal and pay the reduced fine. However, they didn't arrive. I then realised that the car hire company had taken £495 out of my current account with no warning. This caused me a great deal of additional stress and hardship. When I contacted the car hire company to ask why they had charged me this, they advised that they had paid 3 fines of £60 each without informing me they existed....so I had no chance to appeal. They hadn't done that with the first 4 fines as they came straight to me? They had also added £35 admin charge per fine?!!! 9 x £35!
The last 2 fines are being reissued to me to give me chance to appeal but the car hire company have still charged the £35 admin fee.
    This feels really unfair.
The first 4 fines came directly to me so how can they charge any admin? They were also reduced to £20 on appeal so the admin fee is more than the fine?
The next 3 fines were dealt with by the hire company without my knowledge and I had no chance to appeal them?

The last 2 have been reissued to me so hopefully I can wait and appeal them but admin fees still charged.

Apart from the shocking customer service and inability to speak to anyone who knew anything about this, the admin fees are extortionate & unjust. Is there any possibility that I can get this back? Thank you for reading this sorry tale.

First of all these are not fines but invoices for parking charges

Whether or not the hire company can make administration charges will depend on the exact wording of your hire agreement, but it is unlikely they can pay those charges on your behalf.
So what is the EXACT wording of your contract with the hire company?
